The first tow of any vehicle, regardless of whether it has been driven to the smash repairer or driven home, must be completed by an accident licensed Tow Truck. Towing Authorisations are regulated forms from NSW Fair Trading Tow Trucks which is required by law to be completed for the first tow of any series of tows of your vehicle.

Towing Authorisation Books.

Did you know that all Category A (accident towing) tow trucks are required to carry a towing authorisation book? This book is a vital component of the towing process, promoting accountability and adherence to regulations.

How it works...

1. 𝘈𝘤𝘤𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘖𝘤𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘴: Whether it's a collision, an animal strike, or storm damage, the first tow after an accident  requires a Towing Authorisation.

2. 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘦𝘵𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘚𝘪𝘨𝘯: The Towing Authorisation form must be filled out completely and signed by the owner/driver of the vehicle.

3. 𝘉𝘭𝘶𝘦 𝘊𝘰𝘱𝘺: The blue copy of the form is then provided to you – the owner, driver, or the person who authorised the tow.

Identifying Licensed Tow Trucks

Licensed Accident Tow Trucks display'TT Plates' with 4 numbers proceeding the TT on the rego plates of the truck. If your vehicle is towed by a licensed operators, you are entitled to recieve the necessary Towing Authorisation. 

Protecting Your Rights: If your vehicle is being towed for the first time after an accident and you are not presented with the Towing Authorisation form, the towing operator is breaking the law and should be reported to Fair Trading NSW Tow Trucks.
